Fairy Costume Ideas

erin on Jul 30th 2009

The great thing about fairy costumes is that they can range from really basic to really elaborate. So, you can either plan the perfect fairy costume and get totally carried away, or you can do it as a last minute costume idea.

fairyFairies have been in literature and movies for ages. Of course there’s Tinkerbell, but other famous fairies include Sleeping Beauty’s three fairy godmothers, the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio, or even the Midsummer Night’s Dream fairies. They have a woodland-themed look that’s easy to recreate. Use your imagination: be the Tooth Fairy, a butterfly-themed fairy, or even an evil fairy with black wings, high black boots and dark makeup.

Cosplay events sometimes have a faerie-theme (spelled in the more Gothic way), and the costumes are more romantic and elaborate. Most include a Renaissance Faire corset over a linen skirt, ribbons, a floral head wreath, and a half mask with sequins or feathers.

What You Need For a Fairy Costume

You can make a decent fairy costume with a few basic components: leggings and a pastel-colored shirt, sparkly eye makeup, and a wand.

For a more complex fairy costume, add flowers, floaty tutus, corsets, ballet flats, ribbons, and fairy wings. Fairy costumes are pretty inexpensive, so you can usually coordinate a pretty look without spending much.
