Costume Wigs

A wig can make a mediocre costume fantastic, or turn you into your fantasy character. Whether you want a hillbilly mullet or a long Elvira wig, they can be a lot of fun anytime of the year.

wigsThe easiest way to determine how good a wig is is the price tag. You don’t have to spend a ton of cash on a wig, but know that if you dig out a costume wig from the bargain bin for $10, it’s not going to be top notch. Paying $10 for a wig is fine if you just want to complete a Halloween costume and never plan on using it again. I’ve bought a few over the years that got the job done, then sat in the closet until I came across them a few years later. The fibres are usually made of plastic, not higher quality synthetic materials, and they are nearly impossible to style. You’ll have to gently comb them with your fingers to avoid pulling out any hair.

When you spend a bit more on wigs – say up to around $50, the fibres are actually attached securely to the scalp cap, and hairs are thinner and more realistic looking. These types of wigs are great if you want multiple uses out of them, but don’t want to pay too much.

If you want a higher end synthetic wig, you can spend up to about $100. While you won’t get human hair – they will still be made of plastic fibres – the quality is way higher. You can wash these wigs in cool water and shampoo, and style most types.

If you want real hair wigs, you’ll pay a few hundred dollars. These wigs can be easily styled before each use.
